Scholarships for after-school care available through city
The city reported that after-school childcare scholarships are available for families attending the Sanibel Recreation Center Program in the fall that have been economically impacted by COVID-19.
The following may be eligible for the LeeCARES After-School Childcare Scholarship:
– Families who experienced unexpected job loss or hours reduction due to the impacts of COVID-19 and/or Gov. Ron DeSantis’ Safer at Home Act
– Families who require childcare in order to return to work
– Families who are Lee County residents
The LeeCARES scholarship is $2,500 annually per child. The city’s Fall “After School Childcare Program” has been approved as a United Way service provider and is eligible for the funds.
Families that qualified for scholarships during the city’s Summer Camp Program need not reapply.
Families who did not attend the city’s Summer “Youth Camp” can contact Recreation Director Trish Phillips directly at Trish.Phillips@mysanibel.com or 239-472-0345 to complete the process.
The city is currently accepting registration for the first trimester of the after-school youth program, which is scheduled to commence with the beginning of school on Aug. 31.
