F.I.S.H. earns Top-Rated Nonprofit award based on reviews
F.I.SH. of Sanibel-Captiva recently announced that it has been named a “2020 Top-Rated Nonprofit” by GreatNonprofits, a provider of user reviews of charities and non-profits.
F.I.S.H. provides services to those who live, work or visit Sanibel and Captiva as the only wrap-around, social service agency provider. Its vision is to enrich the lives of everyone on the islands through an array of food programs, island-based workshops, social services and Helping Hands.
“We are honored to be named a 2020 Top-Rated Nonprofit,” Executive Director Alicia Tighe said. “We are proud of our accomplishments, but are especially proud that this distinction is awarded by community recognition of the work of our incredible staff, volunteers and gracious donors.”
F.I.S.H. has been a “neighbors helping neighbors” organization for over 38 years. It started in residents’ kitchens and out of their cars, but F.I.S.H. has continued to grow to meet the demands of the community thanks to the generosity of donors and volunteers. F.I.S.H. maximizes all contributions; 92 percent of every dollar donated goes directly to programs and services.
Last year, 20,885 service requests were answered for 5,544 individuals. The food pantry – one of the most utilized programs of the agency – witnessed 8,364 visits that distributed 247,903 pounds of food. Other accomplishments included 3,260 meals delivered, 332 instances of emergency financial assistance, and assembly and delivery of 1,160 food backpacks for children.
The award is based on reviews from clients, community members, volunteers or board members.

“F.I.S.H. is a great example of a nonprofit making a real difference in their community,” Perla Ni, chief executive officer for GreatNonprofits, said. “Their award is well-deserved recognition not only of their work, but the tremendous support they receive, as shown by the many outstanding reviews they have received from people who have direct experience working with F.I.SH.”
