Rotary Happenings: Highlights of Rotary’s past year presented at meeting
The recent meeting of the Sanibel-Captiva Rotary Club celebrated the past year’s presidency of Eldon Bohorfen. While all presidencies are full of excitement and challenges, this year was exceptionally full of excitement and challenges. The normal challenges of adjusting to a new presidency were compounded with the struggle of COVID-19. Zoom meetings became the norm during March and many scheduled events were canceled in an effort to protect club members. And yet, Bohorfen’s year was effective and productive.
At the meeting, he presented the highlights of the Rotary year and recognized members for their contributions. Under Bohorfen’s leadership, the club contributed approximately 2,800 service hours while performing over 30 club service activities. It raised over $160,000 and distributed the funds to various benefactors to make a difference in the lives of those in need. Some benefactors were scholarships for local college students, F.I.S.H. of Sanibel-Captiva, Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife, Children’s Education Center of the Islands and Harry Chapin Food Bank, along with a special COVID-19 Relief Fund for those living or employed on Sanibel.
A big thank you goes out to Bohorfen for his contributions to Rotary throughout the year.
In light of COVID-19, the Sanibel-Captiva Rotary Club is meeting on Fridays at 7 a.m. via Zoom. To take part or for more information, visit sanibelrotary.org or “http://www.facebook.com/sancaprotary”>www.facebook.com/sancaprotary.
