Summer Reading Program continues at Sanibel library
The Sanibel Public Library and Youth Services Librarian Deanna Evans is inviting families with children ages “baby to teen” to register online for the 2020 Summer Reading Program. A total of 114 youth have registered and 10 have already earned their certificate for meeting their reading goals.
Register through Beanstack at sanlib.beanstack.org/reader365. Beanstack Tracker is a free user-friendly app for PCs and Apple and Android devices.Participants of the program can come to the library to pick up their registration gift, add their name to the bricks on the “castle wall,” and choose books earned. As in years past, participants can read to earn books for their home library and for patients at the Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida.
In addition, the following weekly youth programs have moved online:
– A “Storytime with Ms. Deanna” video, featuring Youth Service Librarian Deanna Evans, will be posted on the library’s youth page during the summer, replaced each week by a new story read aloud.
– “Baby Storytime Bounce” videos will be available on the library’s youth page. It is a fun session to help to build motor and literacy skills through stories, song and movement.
– “Page Turner Adventures” will have programming every weekday from 1 to 4 p.m. on the library’s youth page. It will include comedy story theater shows, crafts, recipes, author interviews, guest performers, contests and games.

Precautions are in place to help protect staff and patrons from COVID-19. Safety and sanitation procedures consistent with the CDC and Florida Department of Health guidelines have been implemented. Signs are posted to remind ages 2 and older to wear face coverings, practice social distancing, wash hands and stay home if sick.
Contact-less curbside service will continue; call or go online to place a hold. At this time, there are no overdue fines being assessed. In addition, the library is selling all paperbacks buy one, get one free.
Library cards are available to residents of Sanibel and Lee County at no charge.
Visitor library cards are available for a $10 annual fee.
The Sanibel Public Library is open Mondays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
It will be closed on June 25 for an electrical upgrade and on July 3 for Independence Day.
