Mayor appointed chair of trust fund, vice chair of trust
Sanibel Mayor Kevin Ruane was appointed chair of the Florida Municipal Pension Trust Fund at its meeting on June 4. The Florida League of Cities sponsors the pension trust and offers retirement services. Over 3,000 local government employees, in 60 municipalities, take part in offered services.
Ruane was also appointed vice chair of the Florida Municipal Insurance Investment Trust during the meeting, which he was appointed to serve on in 2011. It is a local government investment pool.
Ruane was appointed to the Sanibel City Council to serve an interim position for a vacant seat in 2007. He then successfully ran for a permanent position. He was re-elected in 2009 and appointed by his peers as vice mayor in 2009-2010. In 2010, Ruane was appointed by his peers as mayor. He was again re-elected to the city council in 2013 and 2017. Ruane is serving his 11th consecutive term as mayor.
