Annual Back to School Supply Drive set

The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools is holding its annual Back to School Supply Drive from June 25 to Aug. 5 at several participating locations throughout Lee County and at the foundation.

The donations will benefit the foundation’s Education Resource Center, which provides Lee County School District educators access to new and reusable classroom supplies at no cost. During these uncertain times, it wants to ensure that educators and students have the necessary tools to succeed.

Suggested donations include notebook paper, pens, No. 2 pencils, crayons, glue sticks, rulers, notebooks, three-ring binders, scissors, and backpacks. Donations can be made by buying a backpack kit of supplies at order.kitsforkidz.org/category/51/foundation-for-lee-county-schools.

Businesses interested in getting involved can contact Brittany Carroll at 239-337-0433 or Brittany@LeeSchoolFoundation.org.

School board seeks advisory committee members

The School Board of Lee County is searching for members to join its Citizens Advisory Committees. The committees meet on a regular basis to provide input, support and advice to the board.

There are six committees on which members of the public may serve:

– Construction Advisory Committee (CAC)

– Continuous Systemic Improvement (CSI) Advisory Committee

– Curriculum Advisory Committee (CUAC)

– Equity and Diversity Advisory Committee (EDAC)

– Finance Advisory Committee (FAC)

– District Advisory Council (DAC)

Anyone interested in serving can fill out an online application by the end of business on Aug. 14.

The school board will choose and approve new members at one of its following meetings. Members serve for two years, except for those appointed to the DAC, whose members serve one-year terms. Members may be appointed to serve additional terms on the same committee.

In appointing members, the school board shall make every effort to reflect the diversity of the community population whenever possible. In addition, it will seek to appoint citizens with knowledge and skills that are beneficial to specific committees.

All advisory committee meetings are open to the public and will be videotaped and uploaded to the district’s YouTube channel. Each committee shall be subject to the Sunshine Law.
