Horse conch found on Sanibel
Gemma Plumb, 10, a new Sanibel resident, found a horse conch on May 16 near Parking Lot 3 on West Gulf Drive on Sanibel. Dorothy Nelson Plumb reported that her daughter was snorkeling in about 2 feet of water when she noticed minnows eating algae on a shell. Gemma dove deeper and became hopeful that she had found a big one. Unable to get the shell, Gemma yelled for a shovel and used that to finally unearth the 12-inch horse conch. Her mother added that her daughter has her find proudly on display at home.
