Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation Shorebird Biologist Audrey Albrecht reported that were about seven active least tern nests at Bowman’s Beach on Sanibel as of June 3.

During recent monitoring, she found a total of 18 adult least terns present.

There also were two active snowy plover nests on Sanibel, with three broods of chicks, and one active Wilson’s plover nest with one chick that went missing after crows and gulls were seen in the area.

“The adults moved to a new location and may re-nest,” Albrecht said.
