BIG ARTS launches virtual gallery for artist’s solo show
BIG ARTS is taking the arts online with the launch of its first virtual gallery on its Website.
It features the debut of emerging, mixed media artist Joshua Horkey’s solo show, entitled “Fight or Flight.” His exhibit was originally scheduled for April as part of the BIG ARTS 2020 season, but had to be canceled when BIG ARTS suspended its programming in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“BIG ARTS is committed to creating new and innovative virtual experiences, and we were delighted to use our first gallery show to advance this for our patrons and friends,” Executive Director Lee Ellen Harder said.
Those who visit the Website can take a virtual stroll through a high resolution 3-D rendering of the Dunham Family Gallery, where they can view the show as if they were in the room. Visitors can follow the path through the gallery, enjoy the art and view the artwork labels. The virtual gallery also features a video walk-and-talk with Horkey, where he disuses the show and his technique and influences.
“A lot of virtual galleries just post images of the art. We wanted to do something a little more immersive,” Programs and Gallery Manager Lauren Huff said. “We think the 3-D tour and video offers something new, exciting and innovative.”
