CECI seeking items for animal habitat projects
The Children’s Education Center of the Islands is gearing up for its Nature Summer Camp programs.
Weekly camp themes include “Cooking With Nature,” “Hands on Habitat,” “Critter Camp” and more. During “Hands on Habitat” week on June 15-19, campers will unearth all the layers of the “Gopher Tortoise Trail” as they search under rocks and logs looking for animal habitats. Campers will learn how to build habitats using natural materials.
In efforts to incorporate sustainability and care for the Earth, the CECI is asking the community to drop off empty milk jugs, cans and paper towel rolls for the campers to repurpose into animal habitats. They will use the items to engineer bird houses and bug hotels. A drop off box is located on the Muench-Bench bench outside of the school building.
Offered June 8 through July 31, summer camp sign ups are still available for ages 1-5. The CECI is implementing new procedures and protocols due to COVID-19. It is taking all of the necessary precautions to keep its children, families and staff safe during this time.
