DDWS announces postponement of tarpon tourney
The “Ding” Darling Wildlife Society-Friends of the Refuge reported that the Tarpon Tournament Committee recently reached the difficult decision to postpone the 9th Annual “Ding” Darling & Doc Ford’s Tarpon Tournament – which was scheduled for May 22 – until May 14, 2021.
Due to the impacts of COVID-19, the infinite number of variables with an event of the tourney’s size and the unforeseeable future in the short term, the committee felt that the decision was necessary to prioritize the health and safety of the tournament’s supporters, participants, staff and volunteers.
The committee decided to roll this year’s entry fees into the 2021 tourney, doubling the prize winnings for next year. However, teams wishing a refund can simply email email@example.com.
The 2020 paid teams who remain registered will be guaranteed a spot next year and keep their starting position. They will only be required to pay a $500 fee per team for four anglers for the 2021 event.
Teams that request a refund will lose their current spot and starting position in the tournament.
Open registration for the 2021 tourney will be in November. All new participants will be required to register for $1,000 for a foursome (combined $500 for the 2020 event and $500 for the 2021 one).
“With the current challenges, we completely understand if you would like your tournament fee returned and will be happy to process it once you contact us,” officials reported. “This was not an easy decision. We thank you for understanding.”
