Cape resident injured in crash in Charlotte County
A single-car crash on U.S. 41 in Charlotte County early this morning sent a Cape Coral woman to Lee Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.
According to a report issued this afternoon by the Florida Highway Patrol, Stephanie Ann Smith, 44, was injured at 12:07 a.m. when the 2013 Hyundai Elantra she was driving north on U.S. 41 travelled off the roadway just north of Melbourne Street in Port Charlotte, entering the right grassy shoulder then overturning and colliding with a fire hydrant.
The vehicle came to a final rest on its roof after also colliding with a business sign and building at 4868 Tamiami Trail.
FHP reported that charges are pending and the accident was not alcohol related.
