F.I.S.H. to distribute Easter dinners, bunny baskets
F.I.S.H. of Sanibel-Captiva will assemble Easter dinner and Easter bunny baskets for those in the community needing a hand up during the upcoming holiday.
The dinner basket for families contains everything needed for a healthy, festive holiday dinner. F.I.S.H. will assemble the bunny baskets for ages 2-12 using candy, small toys, school supplies and more.
This year, as island neighbors begin to experience job layoffs and an abrupt end to “season” due to COVID-19, F.I.S.H. will provide at least 100 dinners and 80 bunny baskets. However, the number will most likely increase as the health crisis continues to unfold.
Basket recipients are those known to F.I.S.H. through usage of its other programs, such as the food pantry and emergency financial assistance. The baskets will be assembled by F.I.S.H. volunteers.
“I want to thank all the volunteers who pick up food and donations, assemble baskets and help on distribution days,” Food Program Director Maria Espinoza said. “This year is going to be particularly challenging due to the COVID-19 restrictions and limitations on available food products. In the past, donations have come from individual donors and businesses. With our seasonal residents returning home early, a decrease in local business revenue and an anticipated increased demand, it may be difficult to fulfill this year.”
Distribution for the bunny baskets will begin on April 3, with the dinners scheduled for distribution on April 7-9. Recipients can pick up the items from 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the F.I.S.H. Walk-In Center.
