CFI distributes emergency funds to island groups

The Charitable Foundation of the Islands’ board of directors and emeritus directors – Chip Roach, Virginia Stringer, Tim O’Neill, Melissa Congress, Cindy Brown, Ralph Clark, Chris Heidrick, Tony Lapi, Al Hanser and Steve Greenstein – plan to immediately distribute $30,000 between F.I.S.H. of Sanibel-Captiva and Community Housing and Resources.

Founded in 2000, the foundation maintains an emergency fund which was also activated during Hurricane Irma. It has relationship with all the islands nonprofits and can dialogue with them to discuss areas of greatest need and target those services for the best and highest use of funds.

“We have been working with our friends at F.I.S.H. and CHR for many years and know they are now in the ‘front lines’ of need,” Roach, chairman of the board, said. “While we know this is just a drop in the bucket and CFI’s modest cash resources are limited to social service needs right now, our board and constituents are working hard now to identify ways in which we can bring to bear both funds and human capital resources to fortify our community and its nonprofit capacity.

“The foundation is now accepting donations to the Community Emergency Fund. The foundation’s commitment is to the Sanibel Captiva community,” he added. “This has never been more forefront in our minds and hearts than right now.”

The mission of the foundation to identify community needs and collaborative opportunities that empower organizations to affect real change; support those in need; and build and distribute resources that contribute to the vitality and health of the Sanibel and Captiva community and residents.
