Now through March 25, the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation will hold an informative nature walk on Wednesdays from 9 to 10 a.m. at Bowman’s Beach, at 1700 Bowmans Beach Road, Sanibel; meet at the foot of the bridge that crosses the bayou on the way to the beach. On Feb. 26, guide Wendy Kindig and SCCF Coastal Wildlife Director Kelly Sloan were joined by five women from Connecticut. Sloan discussed the sea turtle nesting program and answered questions. Kindig noted that a fresh wrack line was explored, and the group found a fresh skate egg case and a sea hare. They also observed many sanderlings, a few willet and black-bellied plovers, along with Wilson’s plovers. The tour often includes discussion of the native plants and gopher tortoises. No registration is required for the free walks, but parking fees do apply.
