Sanibel FlyFishers donate to FGCU Water School Scholarship
The Sanibel FlyFishers hosted its Second Annual Fly Fishing Film Tour on Feb. 25th at The Community House on Sanibel, which was a fundraiser for the SFF/FGCU Water School Scholarship Fund and Captains for Clean Water.
F3T gathers the best of world-class fly fishing films to promote fly fishing, nature and conservation. This year’s films included a tribute to legend Lefty Kreh, who was an innovator in saltwater fly fishing.
Over 250 fly fishing and outdoor enthusiasts of all ages attended to view the film tour, have a meal and bid on more than $15,000 of fly fishing gear, original artwork, guided trips and dining experiences.
The club has partnered with the FGCU Water School to create the Sanibel FlyFishers Scholarship Fund. Each year, it will provide funding for a Water School student who is either a senior or a graduate student, from Lee, Collier or Charlotte counties, and is conducting research on local water issues.
On Feb. 25, FGCU Development Director June Stine was on hand to receive the first $5,000 check from Sanibel FlyFishers President Pete Squibb. It also was announced that a club member and his wife would match all donations during the event designated for the fund on a 3-to-1 basis up to $50,000.
Furthermore, donations to the fund through March 7 will be included in the match.
