Library to feature author talk, Stories for Grownups and more
The Sanibel Public Library is offering a variety of upcoming programs and activities.
Drop in on Feb. 28 at 1 p.m. to hear Vicky Lettmann and writers from her “Joy of Writing” class share stories, poems, and personal essays. Lettmann’s writing has appeared in Twenty-six Minnesota Writers, as well as other publications. She published “The Beach,” a collection of poems with art by her mother. She is the co-editor of “When Last on the Mountain: The View from Writers Over 50.”
Dr. Sid Simon’s popular “Stories for Grownups” will be held on March 2 at 6 p.m. Storytelling comes easy to the veteran teacher, and his stories are often based on his own life – growing older in Florida, parenting, grand-parenting, and life’s lessons. He will tell highlights from the past 18 years of “Stories for Grownups.”
On March 6 at 10 a.m., Richard Gollin will present a program on the development of the V-2 rocket; the world’s first long-range guided ballistic missile. The missile, powered by a liquid-propellant rocket engine, was developed during World War II in Germany to attack Allied cities. V-2s were launched against London, Antwerp and Lige.
In addition, the following weekly programs are available for youth:
– Family Storytime: Wednesdays at 11 a.m. and Thursdays at 11 a.m. with Youth Service Librarian Deanna Evans. For preschoolers and their caregivers, the program helps develop pre-reading skills through songs and stories.
– After-School Crew: Thursdays at 3 p.m. with Youth Service Librarian Deanna Evans. Kindergarten through fifth graders will get to meet some new books and enjoy puzzles, games, crafts and snacks.
