City, FGCU to hold public workshop on vulnerability study
In partnership with the Florida Gulf Coast University, the city of Sanibel will hold a public workshop on Feb. 28 from 2 to 4 p.m. at The Community House, at 2173 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel.
The purpose is to inform the public about the outcomes of a collaborative study on Sanibel’s vulnerability due to sea-level rise and storminess, conducted by the city and FGCU and later finalized in the fall. To read the full report, visit www.mysanibel.com/content/download/26673/171010.
At the workshop, a presentation will be provided by Dr. Michael Savarese, with FGCU, in coordination with the city’s Natural Resources Department staff. Savarese will give an overview of the SWOT analysis – strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats – as well as the results of a beach profile study and the next steps. After the presentation, there will be a question-and-answer session.
Additionally, an update and overview of the Southwest Florida Regional Resiliency Compact and the next steps regarding the effort will be provided during the workshop.
