IWA earns Florida DEP award for drinking water
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection recently wrapped up its 2019 Plant Excellence Awards presentations, naming the Island Water Association as one of the winners.
Each year, the DEP presents awards to domestic wastewater and drinking water facilities around the state that demonstrate excellence in operation, maintenance, innovative treatment, waste reduction, pollution prevention, recycling or other achievements. The awards recognize facilities that demonstrate a special commitment to excellence in management through dedicated professionalism and that have an impeccable history of record-keeping compliance.
The DEP presented the awards to a total of 13 facilities statewide, including four domestic wastewater facilities and nine drinking water facilities. The IWA was named a Drinking Water Treatment Plant Award winner. The awards were presented at district ceremonies during the Focus on Change Seminars held during January and February around the state.
“It is vitally important to Florida’s millions of residents and visitors that drinking water and wastewater facilities operate efficiently and effectively,” DEP Division of Resource Management Director Benjamin Melnick said. “The men and women who operate these facilities have demonstrated the highest levels of professionalism, innovation, and reliability in an industry that affects the lives of everyone in Florida. It is the department’s pleasure to recognize them for their hard work and continued dedication to protecting the environment and providing excellent service to customers”
