Chapel by the Sea announces services during Lent
The season of Lent – 40 days not including Sundays – begins on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 26.
The Captiva Chapel by the Sea will host a service at noon that day, which will include Holy Communion and the imposition of ashes.
“For Christians all over the world, Lent is a time of self-reflection and renewal,” the Rev. Larry L. Marshall said. “It is an opportunity to approach the God who loves us unconditionally.”
On March 11 and 18 at noon, the chapel will celebrate with a Taize service, which is a meditative service modeled after the religious community in Taize, France. The quiet worshipful experience will include contemplation, prayer, communion and lighting a candle for prayer intentions.
On Palm Sunday, April 5, the chapel’s 11 a.m. service will commemorate the entrance of Jesus into Jerusalem. On Maundy or Holy Thursday, April 9, it will remember Jesus’ last supper with a service of Holy Communion at 7 p.m. Good Friday, April 10, will be commemorated with a service at noon.
On Easter Day – April 12 – the chapel will gather at 11 a.m. to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus from the grave on the first Easter. There will be music and the story of Jesus’ resurrection will be read.
The Captiva Chapel by the Sea is at 11580 Chapin Lane, Captiva.
