Susan Beckham Zurenda, author of “Bells For Eli,” will take part in a meet-and-greet and book signing on March 4 at 3 p.m. at MacIntosh Books and Paper, at 2330 Palm Ridge Road, Sanibel. She is a speaker at this year’s Southwest Florida Reading Festival. The novel “Bells For Eli” is a distinctive coming of age story. First cousins Ellison “Eli” Winfield and Adeline “Delia” Green are meant to grow up happily and innocently across the street from one another amid the supposed wholesome values of small-town Green Branch, South Carolina, in the 1960s and 1970s. But Eli’s tragic accident changes the trajectory of their lives and of those connected to them. Zurenda has won awards for her short fiction and has published short stories and nonfiction in literary magazines and journals. With undergraduate and graduate degrees in English, she has held a teaching career on the college level and with high school AP. Zurenda currently manages media relations for Magic Time Literary Publicity.
