Watson MacRae Gallery to host trunk show
The Watson MacRae Gallery will hold a trunk show on Feb. 13-14 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The book “Rug Money” describes the evolution of the Guatemalan women’s artistic cooperative, Multicolores, including how it started, how it grew and how the money from the sale of their rugs now supports not only the women and their families, but the entire community. The show will feature hooked rugs created by the women, designed in a variety of sizes and colors with the islands in mind.
The rugs are made from 100 percent recycled clothing, sourced directly in the communities. The artists take their design inspirations from the symbols and decorative motifs found in traditional Maya clothing and from nature. Wendy West, who is from Sanibel and has worked with the Guatemalan artists, will be in attendance to discuss the rugs and Multicolores.
