San-Cap Art League to hold meeting
The Sanibel-Captiva Art League will hold its monthly meeting on Feb. 20 from 1 to 3 p.m. at The Community House, at 2173 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel.
The speaker will be Joan Roberts, and the program will include an oil painting demonstration.
Roberts’ paintings are a combination of the alla prima and impressionistic styles, with brilliant and flamboyant brush strokes and color. No matter what the subject – landscapes, figures or still life – she paints with broad strokes, alternating lights with darks, thick with thin, finding edges and losing edges, creating a painting collaborating between heart and mind.
Traditionally trained at the Art Institute of Chicago, Roberts has attended classes in Connecticut, Florida, Michigan and Wisconsin. She is member of the Cape Coral Art League, Art Center of Bonita, von Liebig Art Center in Naples and Alliance of Fort Myers. Roberts participates in art fairs and events throughout Florida, and her artwork is exhibited in business offices and residences in many states.
The meetings are free and open to the public.
The Sanibel-Captiva Art League activities include weekly plein aire events, shows, newsletters, community support and more. The club’s current president is Anita Force Marshall.
