Sanibel-Captiva Republican Caucus to meet

By Staff | Feb 10, 2020

The Sanibel-Captiva Republican Caucus will hold its monthly meeting on Feb. 15 at 10 a.m. at the Sanibel Public Library, at 770 Dunlop Road, Sanibel.

Adam Botana and Jason Maughan, both candidates running for the Florida House of Representatives District 76 seat being vacated by state Rep. Ray Rodrigues, will speak.

Botana’s father came to the United States from Cuba in 1968 at age 13. In 2006, his family started the Bay Water Boat Club in Bonita Springs with a single boat, growing the business to over 60 boats and 400 members, with Botana as vice president. Botana is an officer in the Bonita Springs Rotary Club and was appointed by Gov. Rick Scott to the Florida Boating Advisory Council, where he made personal contributions to help reduce the impact of boating on the environment.

Maughan’s family emigrated from Ireland to Lee County in 1986, and he became a U.S. citizen in 1993. He received his juris doctorate in 1996. Maughan specializes in real estate and corporate law on Sanibel, and opened his own law firm in 2004, winning awards, including “Best Attorney and Law Firm of Sanibel and Captiva” and Florida Businessman of the year. He is active in charitable and philanthropic organizations, served on the Sanibel Planning Commission, and was elected to the city council.

The meeting is open to the public.
