Hirdie Girdie announces guest artist

The Hirdie Girdie Gallery will feature Myra Roberts as its February Guest Artist, with an opening reception on Feb. 13 from 5 to 8 p.m. at 2490 Library Way, Sanibel. Her exhibit will consist of a combination of paintings, including her Florida Retro/Sunshine States Paintings of the Gulf Coast, a preview of her 2020 Spokeswoman Exhibit, her 2020 Black Suit Collection and an environmental painting concerning clean water along the Gulf Coast. A public school art teacher for 25 years, Roberts is recognized for her iconic images of vintage Florida style art from the ’20s to the ’50s. She also produces social commentary pieces on historical and contemporary issues and has received honors for her work on the topics. Environmental concerns, especially water quality, are a frequent subject. Her art is designed to educate and inspire the audience in matters regarding nature, the environment and social justice issues.
