CIYC to host speaker for sea level rise program
The Captiva Island Yacht Club will host an environmental education program, “Sea Level Rise: Warming Seas and Melting Glaciers,” on Feb. 11 from 10 to 11:45 a.m. at the clubhouse.
Dr. Tiffany Troxler, director of science at the Sea Level Solutions Center at Florida International University’s Institute of Water and Environment, will share her knowledge. She has spent years researching and teaching sea level rise, its impacts on natural and urban environments, and recommended interventions.
Troxler’s nature-based approaches to mitigation and adaptation are based on scientific knowledge. She will bring attendees up-to-date on the most current information about how to address storm surges, more-frequent king tides, coastal erosion, saltwater intrusion and more.
Open to the public, valet parking will be available; carpooling is recommended.
The Captiva Island Yacht Club is at 15903 Captiva Drive, Captiva.
