The Community House, at 2173 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel, will present the following:

Painting with Friends

Painting with Friends will take place on Jan. 29 from 1 to 4 p.m. Cost is $10. Artists of all levels of expertise are welcome, as long as they bring their own supplies and are able to paint independently. This is a non instructional gathering, though gentle critiques may be given if requested. Painting and drawing only; no crafts. For information, call Jane Hudson at 239-466-0244 or 239-464-6936.

From the Italian Countryside

Chef Loretta Paganini will host a hands-on class on Jan. 29 from 2 to 5 p.m. on recipes from the Italian countryside. Learn a few techniques and enjoy everything prepared. The menu will include: artichoke parmesan piedina; tomato panzanella with Balsamic vinaigrette; handmade potato gnocchi pasta with ragu meat sauce; chicken scaloppini marsala with porcini mushroom sauce; smashed potatoes; and individual warm almond-peach crostata with almond gelato. All-Level Yoga

All-Level Yoga will be held on Jan. 30 from 10 to 11 a.m. with instructor Dr. Susan Pataky, of Sanibel Yoga. Open to beginners and those with and level of experience. Cost is $18 for members and $20 for non-members; class packages available. For information, call 239-738-3856.

Soup, Chowder and Stew

Chef Loretta Paganini will host a hands-on class on Jan. 30 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Starting with an all-purpose stock, she will transform it into a variety of soups, chowders and stews, even freshly made bread. The menu will include: Italian bread; stock making; forest mushroom soup; seafood tomato chowder with crostini; pork stew with apples and sptzle; roasted chestnuts and chicken noodle soup; and chocolate Balsamic soup with biscotti. Audubon Lecture

The Sanibel-Captiva Audubon Society will host a lecture, ” Chasing Rare Birds in the Lower 48,” on Jan. 30 at 7 p.m. Suggested $10 donation per attendee, with proceeds to promote conservation on Sanibel and in Florida. Italian Favorite Cuisine

Chef Loretta Paganini will host a demonstration class on Jan. 31 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. She will share Italy’s most popular dishes in this fun and delicious class. The menu will include: seafood strudel with fontina sauce; creamy squash soup with cheese chips and herb oil; mixed green salad with roasted pears; candied walnuts and honey mustard vinaigrette; seared pork tenderloin medallions with a port demi-glace sauce; cheddar mashed potatoes; grilled asparagus wrapped in prosciutto; and white chocolate raspberries trifle. 1927 Gala

The Sanibel Community Association will host its “Celebrate The Heart of the Island 1927 Gala” on Jan. 31 at 5:30 p.m. It will feature culinary offerings from island restaurants, a live auction, entertainment and historical stories. Tickets are $150.

Hijab Diversity

Part of the community celebration of diversity, a Hijab Diversity program will be held on Feb. 3 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. It will feature the hijab, its meaning and more.

Shell Crafters

Shell Crafting Class will be held on Feb. 3 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Make flower figures or animals. Limited class size; first come first served. Children must be accompanied by an adult due to the complexity/dexterity required.

Kids Cooking First Monday

A Kids Cooking First Monday class will be held on Feb. 3 from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. Cost is $50 per child.

Vinyasa Yoga

Vinyasa Yoga will be held on Feb. 4 from 10 to 11 a.m. with instructor Dr. Susan Pataky, of Sanibel Yoga. Open to those with at least one-plus year of experience, with committed consistent practice. It will cover the nutritional benefits of a plant-based diet through healthy eating habits. Learn healthy meal combinations for breakfast, lunch and dinner, plus snacks.
