The SanCap Catholics, a new independent group of area Catholics, marked its beginning with its first function, a “Right-to-Life Baby Shower and Breakfast,” on Jan. 16 at the Sandollar Restaurant.

Attended by 80 members, the group heard Father Joseph Cavoto of New York City’s Church of St. Francis speak about protecting people in all stages of life, as well as the current state of the post-Vatican II Catholic Church.

Acknowledging past efforts have been primarily women oriented, the group is placing a special emphasis on the importance of men’s involvement.

At the function, the women supported the Guadalupe Social Services by collecting baby items, such as diapers, clothing and wipes, along with shirts for migrants, and toiletries for their homeless shower program. The men collected over $700 to provide shavers, socks and men’s underwear for the Guadalupe Homeless Program.

Future activities will include a Lobster Dinner in February and Italian Festa in March.
