BIG ARTS to host open house
BIG ARTS is opening the doors of its new home and the community is invited to join the celebration.
BIG ARTS will host a Community Open House on Jan. 25 from noon to 4 p.m.
Free and open to the public, it will feature live music by the popular Island Jazz and BIG ARTS Community Band and Chorus, as well as food provided by Rib City. Attendees will be able to tour the new garden area and art gallery, plus experience the brand new state-of-the-art performance hall.
“We’re thrilled to finally be able to open our doors and show off this gorgeous new facility to the public,” Board of Directors Co-Chair Don Rice said. “BIG ARTS’ mission is to provide quality arts and entertainment to the Sanibel and Captiva community, and we couldn’t think for a better way to celebrate our opening than with the much loved talent from our own community.”
Beginning at noon, the Island Jazz will play in the garden. The gallery will be open all day, featuring the first fine arts exhibit of the year, called “Time for Joy,” by renowned artist Mally Khorasantchi. At 1 p.m., people can head into the performance hall and enjoy the BIG ARTS Community Chorus music.
The Island Jazz will all day, with the finale by the BIG ARTS Concert Band at 3 p.m.
Throughout the day, attendees will be able to move freely around the facility and enjoy barbecue chicken and pork sliders, potato salad and coleslaw as they take in the sights and sounds.
“This is a celebration of not just the new facility, but the amazing people who make up the Sanibel and Captiva community who have supported the arts on the island throughout the years,” board Co-Chair Susan Heisler said. “We hope guests get a chance to experience everything the new building has to offer, grab a bite to eat and most importantly enjoy the art and music.”
The public is encouraged to beat the traffic and ride a bike as ample bike parking will be provided at the Sanibel City Hall, at 800 Dunlop Road, Sanibel.
The BIG ARTS Community is sponsored by The LAT Foundation.
