Gulfshore Opera to bring Louis Armstrong, Puccini islands
Gulfshore Opera will return to Sanibel with two concerts for its sixth season.
The GO Cabaret returns to The Community House on Jan. 25 with “A Salute to Louis Armstrong.” On Feb. 8, Gulfshore Opera will present its “Passionate Puccini” concert at the Sanibel Congregational United Church of Christ; delight in the great arias and scenes from “Tosca,” “Turandot,” “Madama Butterfly” and a sneak peek into the upcoming production of “La Bohme.”
GO Artists in Residence, accompanied by a jazz trio, salute Louis Armstrong. Enjoy selections by Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra. Jazz pianist Tony Viviano leads the trio that includes FGCU Jazz Studies professor Brandon Robertson and drummer Rick Costa.
Tickets are $45 and include wine and hors d’oeuvres.
“Passionate Puccini” brings the Gulfshore Opera Professional Artists in Residence to Sanibel with regional favorite, soprano Robyn Lamp. Lamp performed the role of Lucrezia Borgia last season on the Opera Meets Broadway Gala, also performing with Broadway star Norm Lewis. That same evening, Lamp heroically stepped in as a last-minute replacement for the Verdi Requiem with the Southwest Florida Symphony.
Tickets are $50 for premium seats and $35 for general admission.
