San-Cap Art League to hold meeting
The Sanibel-Captiva Art League will hold its monthly meeting on Jan. 16 from 1 to 3 p.m. at The Community House, at 2173 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel.
The speaker will be artist Peter Zell and the program will include an oil painting demonstration.
Since retiring and moving to Sanibel, Zell has won many awards from arts organizations in Southwest Florida, including second place at the Winner’s Circle Exhibition in 2007. He was nominated for best new artist in the Angel of the Arts competition in Fort Myers in 2008 and was featured as an emerging artist by Grandeur Magazine. In 2018, Zell was one of four artists profiled in Gulf Shores Life.
Zell’s paintings have been accepted by the Butler Institute of American Art for its summer exhibitions in Youngstown, Ohio. He has participated in solo and group shows on Sanibel, Captiva and Fort Myers and currently shows his paintings at 2 Islands Gallery on Captiva and BIG ARTS on Sanibel. His work is also exhibited year-round at Alpine Fine Furnishings in Lake Tahoe, California.
He is a member of Florida Artists Group and past-president of the SCAL.
The meetings are free and open to the public.
The Sanibel-Captiva Art League activities include weekly plein aire events, shows, newsletters, community support and more. The club’s current president is Anita Force Marshall.
