LWV of Sanibel to host luncheon, program
The League of Women Voters of Sanibel will hold its monthly luncheon on Jan. 16.
The program is “National Popular Vote: Honoring the Will of the People” and will feature guest speaker Ingrid Johnson, Florida’s representative for the Floridians for National Popular Vote.
What is the National Popular Vote? Why should states adopt the NPV? Why isn’t this the law of the land? How many states want the NPV? These are just a few of the questions that will be answered. You may have heard about the National Popular Voter Interstate Compact and wondered, “What is this all about?” The LWV works to educate and fill in the blanks on the issues.
The Floridians for National Popular Vote have been researching, advocating and winning over millions of people in many states on behalf of the NPV. Johnson will explain and define just what it all means. She comes equipped with information related to the current situation and future goals of the numerous groups working to ensure that, “Every vote, in every state, will matter in every presidential election.”
Taking place at the Sundial Beach Resort, registration will open at 11:30 a.m., followed by lunch at noon. The program will run from about noon to 2 p.m., including a question-and-answer session.
The cost is $25 per person for the lunch and program. Mail a check with the names of all attendees to: LWV Sanibel, P.O. Box 1194, Sanibel, FL 33957, or pay at the door day with a cash or check.
