Home Show returns to Lee Civic Center this weekend
An event that has only gotten bigger and bigger over the last three years returns to the Lee Civic Center this weekend.
The Fort Myers Home and Remodeling Show, the largest such show in Southwest Florida, returns for three days from Jan. 10 to 12 and, with seasonable residents back, this one promises to be the biggest one yet.
Taking part will be local contractors specializing in just about anything that has to do with the home, from floors to doors. Attendees can shop for spas, pools, kitchen and bathroom remodeling, landscaping, patios, hurricane protection, solar, water treatment, HVAC and much more.
“We also have some new vendors such as the Amish Villa. We have our springtime farms and B&C Fruit Trees will be there for some outdoors stuff,” said show promoter Jackielou. “We have generator people and others who have never done the show as well as those who have and done very well.”
This is the first of two shows held throughout the season. The first was in October, which was also well attended. However, the winter show usually draws the most. Expect as many as 140 vendors to fill the civic center floor.
The show had taken place the first full weekend in January, but with move-in day happening on New Year’s Day, Jackielou decided to move it to the second weekend this time and said she might do that in the future.
“I like not being the first event. Many people are still saying good-bye to friends and relatives after the holidays,” Jackielou said. “Next weekend we’ll have the snowbirds but not the people who came just for the holiday. Those people aren’t going to a home show.”
Jackielou said she plans to hold the fall show of 2020 in November after the elections, so as to not lose ad buys to candidates running for office, as has happened in the past.
“We have about $60,000 in ads, with six or seven billboards, radio and TV stations and print ads. There’s nothing else happening this weekend that I know of,” Jackielou said.
She is planning on doing a condo-inspired show at Hertz Arena in February, saying that with thousands of condos within 20 miles of the arena, it is a perfect location and time for condo owners and HOAs to see what’s out there. Many of the same exhibitors are expected to show up.
The show also will feature giveaways for prizes including one-year free memberships with AAA and free round-trip tickets for the Key West Express.
The show happens on Friday, Jan. 10 from noon to 5 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 11, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, Jan. 12, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Admission is $6, with children getting in free. For additional information about the annual show, please go to www.fmhomeshow.com.
