PHOTO PROVIDED Students will learn how to construct a shelter from natural materials in the Sanibel Sea School's After School Survival Skills program.

Beginning this month, children ages 6-13 are invited to join Sanibel Sea School for a series of After School Survival Skills classes.

Participants will learn techniques to stay alive on an island – or anywhere else!

“We are going to pretend we’re stranded on a deserted island after a shipwreck,” educator Shannon Stainken said. “We’ll learn how to meet our basic needs like finding food and water, constructing shelter, and starting a fire. We have some very fun activities planned.”

Cost is $20 per student per session, scholarships are available upon request.

Sessions will be held on Jan. 14, Jan. 21 and Feb. 4 from 3:30 to 5:30 PM at the Sanibel Sea School.
