Garden club to hold biennial auction

The Shell Islands Garden Club will host its biennial auction, “Going, Going, Gone,” on Jan. 14 starting at noon at The Community House on Sanibel, featuring club member Fay Carney as the auctioneer.

The live auction will showcase a variety of items related to the home and garden, as well as themed baskets, gift certificates from local businesses, handcrafted one-of-a kind treasures, jewelry and household furnishings. There also will be a silent auction, in which attendees may place their bids on select items until the final bell.

Event co-chairs Jeannine Brinkerhoff and Maggie Butcher promise “a lively auction with some interesting items.” Brinkerhoff added that the event is highly anticipated and will offer something for everyone and a fun afternoon for a good cause.

Open to the public, the bidding will begin at 12:15 p.m.

Light refreshments will be served.

The biennial auction is the non-profit organization’s biggest fundraising event. The proceeds help to support multiple organizations, including the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation, Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife, Community House, Sanibel Historical Museum and Village, and ECHO.

The Shell Islands Garden Club meets on the second Tuesday of the month from October to May. Members enjoy a variety of pursuits, including floral arranging, garden tours and field trips to local nurseries, and helping to create and maintain native plantings in public places.
