Decked out in holiday decor

By Staff | Dec 19, 2019

For the 13th consecutive year, the Sanibel Lighthouse has been decorated with holiday decor by the city’s Community Services Department. Built in 1884, the lighthouse has survived hurricane strength winds many times and is a symbol of the community’s endurance and strength. As a holiday gift to the community, the staff places the green garland and red bows upon the lighthouse. Additionally, both of the adjacent Lighthouse Caretaker’s Cottages have been decorated with garland, bows and wreaths for the holiday season. Placed on the National Register of Historical Places in 1974, ownership of the lighthouse, two cottages and 44.7 acres were transferred to the city by the federal government in 2010. The decorations will remain on the lighthouse and cottages until Jan. 9.
