Shell Club awards $1,000 to Conchologists of America

By Staff | Dec 13, 2019

On Nov. 17, the Sanibel-Captiva Shell Club presented Donald Dan with a check for $1,000 for Conchologists of America to use toward scholarships for students studying molluscan-related fields. Conchologists of America is an organization for molluscan enthusiasts around the United States and internationally. It now will establish the Sanibel-Captiva Shell Club Award to be applied for the study of mollusks in Southwest Florida to an eligible grant request in the course of its annual grant selection process. Dan is the endowments director and his sale of shells during the annual shell show accounts for a substantial percent of the funds available for donation. The Sanibel-Captiva Shell Club awards grants from the proceeds of its annual shell show. Show entry fees, sponsorships, and shell and T-shirt sales generated over $30,000 in 2019. The 83rd annual Shell Show will be held on March 5-7.
