SCUCC to host Annual Christmas Eve Beach service
Island residents and visitors are invited to grab a beach towel or chair and head to the Sanibel Lighthouse Beach for the Annual Christmas Eve Beach service on Dec. 24 at 5 p.m.
Hosted by Sanibel Congregational United Church of Christ since 1979, the Gulf breezes and waves provide background for the annual family-friendly service of carols and telling of the Christmas story by Senior Pastor Rev. John Danner. As the sun sets, the beach will become aglow with candlelight as all join in singing “Silent Night” in the shadow of the Sanibel Lighthouse.
The offerings collected will benefit F.I.S.H. of Sanibel-Captiva and the Salvation Army.
Parking will be available at the Sanibel & Captiva Islands Chamber of Commerce, at 1159 Causeway Road, and Sanibel Congregational United Church of Christ, at 2050 Periwinkle Place, with free transportation beginning at 4 p.m. Transportation will be provided by vans from Island Taxi and trollies from Adventures in Paradise. There also will be limited free parking available at Lighthouse Beach.
Traveling by bicycle or walking is always encouraged.
Attendees are asked to help preserve the beauty of the island by following the “no parking” zones, cleaning up all personal trash and avoiding the roped off beach grass areas on the beach itself.
In the case of bad weather, announcements will be made at 1 p.m. and the service held at the church.
