Christkindlmarkt Holiday Craft Market this weekend
The German American Social Club of Cape Coral will hold its traditional Christkindlmarkt Holiday Craft Market this weekend.
Susie Zimmer with the German American Social Club of Cape Coral said although they did not hold the Christkindlmarkt Holiday Craft Market last year, in years past it has attracted a large crowd over its two days.
“It’s an opportunity to invite the community to come and enjoy the Christmas celebration German style,” she said. “The Bavarian Gardens will be decorated with Christmas trees and lighting.”
This year the Holiday Craft Market will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, and from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15.
The market will have clusters of music in various areas around the Bavarian Gardens, featuring a brass quintet, a reed quintet, carols by the Edelweiss Chorus, as well as entertainment by Hafenkapelle and local musicians.
The market also will feature vendors selling their crafts, such as Christmas decorations, toys, jewelry, cookies, Stollen and ginger bread.
The German American Social Club also will be selling their bratwurst and potato pancakes. Zimmer said they will also be selling Gluwein, mulled wine, a tradition for a German Christmas.
Christmas treats will be on hand and games for children to enjoy. The German Old Saint Nick will also be paying a visit.
“It’s the Christmas spirit,” Zimmer said of why she enjoys the Holiday Craft Market. “We are down here in Florida. It’s hard to get into the Christmas spirit. It’s the lights, festivities and feelings that Christmas is on the way. It’s the traditional Christmas spirit that we all love and enjoy that we don’t see much in Florida.”
The event is free for the community to attend. She said it’s about the community coming together and having fun for an afternoon.
“Come sit down and enjoy the community,” Zimmer said. “It’s a family event.”
The German American Social Club of Cape Coral is at 2101 Pine Island Road.
