Sanibel Congregational United Church of Christ will host Dr. Brett and Shari MacLean, of Global Partners in Hope, on Dec. 15 at 10:10 a.m. to share about their continuing work in Togo, West Africa, assisting the development of medical centers and services.

They will provide updates, as well as plans for after their return to Togo on Dec. 29.

Open to the public, the presentation will be held in Heron Hall.

Global Partners in Hope exists to meet the tangible needs of people in communities across the globe, delivering real, sustainable hope. They do this through a holistic approach that include cultivating meaningful relationship with local leaders and officials. GPiH collaborates with the leaders in identifying tangible projects that have lasting impact on the welfare of the community, and then GPiH partners in the United States work with the local community to facilitate the project’s completion.

The MacLeans’ work is part of the effort initiated by the leaders in Togo, who sought out GPiH to partner with them to bring sustainable changes to their health care system. The couple partners with national, in-country organizations to assist in building and providing medical centers with equipment and trained healthcare providers. It continues their work of the last 13 year in Mali and now Togo.

Share their time in Togo with their four children, Brett MacLean is a pediatrician and Sheri MacLean is a midwife and family nurse practitioner.

“We have spent a gigantic amount of time on building the bridges and necessary relationships that will allow for long term success” Brett MacLean said. “Bridges with government officials, bridges with local leaders, bridges with partner non-profit organizations, and bridges with local religious leaders. In addition, we have been helping to oversee the building of actual, physical bridges as well (that ensure residents can assess the new medical centers).”
