Painting with Friends
Painting with Friends will take place on Dec. 11 from 1 to 4 p.m. Cost is $10 per person. Artists of all levels of expertise are welcome, as long as they bring their own supplies and are able to paint independently. Ariel Hoover, chair of the Lee County Climate Reality Project, will present “Climate Change: Threat to Wildlife and Its Habitats” on Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. A former public school teacher at Tufts University in a special program for Chinese students, she was trained by the Climate Reality Project on the many aspects of climate change and is part of the Climate Reality Leadership Corps.
Holiday Craft Bazaar
Holiday Craft Bazaar will be held on Dec. 14 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Purchase holiday gifts, including jewelry, sea glass, hand-knitted items, pottery, handmade jams, local honey and more. Tables available for $30 each.
Resident Chef Jarred Harris will host a Culinary Social on Dec. 14 from 10 a.m. to noon. The theme is “Holiday Chutneys.” Take home an eight-ounce jar of chutney. Cost is $25 for members or $30 for non-members.
Monday Current Events
Normally held at BIG ARTS, Monday Current Events will take place on Dec. 16 at 10 a.m. Enjoy lively discussion of the biggest headlines. For information, contact Malcolm Martini at 239-395-1362 or email@example.com.
Shell Crafting Class will be held on Dec. 16 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Make flower figures or animals. Limited class size; first come first served. Children must be accompanied by an adult due to the complexity/dexterity required.
Watercolor on Yupo
Watercolor on Yupo will be held on Dec. 16 from 1 to 4 p.m. with Anita Helen Cohen. Learn and practice techniques for getting textural effects in paintings by adding, mixing and blotting away watercolors. Watercolor painting experience is helpful but not necessary. Some supplies provided. Cost is $45 for members or $55 for non-members.
Alla Prima Oil Painting
Alla Prima Oil Oil Painting will be held on Dec. 17 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. with Suzette. The subject will be a barn swallow. Participants will take home a finished work of art. Open to ages 12 and older. Cost is $45 for members and $55 for non-members.
Vinyasa Yoga will be held on Dec. 17 from 10 to 11 a.m. with instructor Dr. Susan Pataky, of Sanibel Yoga. Open to those with at least one-plus year of experience, with committed consistent practice. A Community Social will take place on Dec. 17 from 6 to 8 p.m., with the theme of “Curry Night.” The menu will feature: coconut and butternut squash bisque, pumpkin peanut and sweet potato soup, garlic Naan bread, poppadums and homemade chutneys, onion bhaji, and crispy falafels for soups and starters; and garden vegetable curry, chicken tikka masala, spicy Thai beef curry, basmati rice and vegetable pilau rice for the main dishes. For a $5 donation, the desserts will include banana fritters and an ice cream sundae bar with caramel and chocolate sauces. Alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase. Tickets are $15 in advance or $18 at the door, if seats are available.
The Community House is taking soup and stew orders for pick up in December, with the proceeds to benefit children’s scholarships for the Culinary Education Center of Sanibel.
