On Nov. 17, the Sanibel-Captiva Shell Club presented Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation Chief Executive Officer Dr. Ryan Orgera with a $5,000 check to support SCCF’s research on water quality. Specifically, the SCCF will use the funds to support a one-year pilot project to determine if restoring clam communities that collapsed in the mid-twentieth century will improve water quality. The club awards grants from the proceeds of its annual Shell Show. Entry fees from the 2019 show, shell sales, sponsorships and T-shirt sales generated over $30,000. The 83rd Shell Show will be held on March 5-7. The club meets on the second Sunday of the month from October through April at 2 p.m. at The Community House on Sanibel; no meeting is scheduled for December. The meetings include a speaker, silent auctions for shells, show and tell, door prizes and refreshments. They are open to the public.
