By Staff | Nov 27, 2019

The Captiva Memorial Library, at 11560 Chapin Lane, Captiva, is offering the following free programs for adults and youth throughout the month of December:

– Coloring for Grown-ups

(daily during operating hours)

Researchers and art therapists alike have touted the calming effects of coloring, and adults have found this childhood activity a refreshing way to release their creativity, relieve stress and meet other participants. Coloring pages designed especially for adults, as well as colored pencils, provided.

– Checkers

(daily during operating hours)

Play classic checkers, “the game of games,” or try other versions such as Fox and Geese, Give Away, Shifting Pyramids, Corner Checkers or Goban. Instructions included. Alternatively, reverse the field and play Tic Tac Toe or Super Tic Tac Toe.

– Dec. 3-12: STEAM Activity – Kaleido Gears

(daily during operating hours)

Kaleido Gears encourages creativity in children. This STEAM toy teaches children the basics of mechanics.

– Dec. 17-19: STEAM Activity – Magnatiles Building Set

(daily during operating hours)

Magnatiles are a great way for children to explore geometry concepts. The plastic magnetic tiles let children build structures.

– Dec. 20-28: Happy December Holidays – Hanukkah, Christmas and Kwanzaa

(daily during operating hours)

Check out books from different December holiday displays and complete fun activities. Candles and lights are used in all December holiday celebrations. Make a luminary out of a paper cup and a tea light. Craft available while supplies last.

Stop by the Captiva Memorial Library to read a favorite magazine or newspaper; to discover a good book, DVD, or music CD; to color or create a craft; to do a puzzle; or to play a game of checkers.
