Over 2,000 pounds of turkey donated
The 12th Annual Turkey Drop and Roll took place on Nov. 22 at 1417 Jamaica Drive, Sanibel. Event coordinators Bob Fodor, Laurie Jensen and Fred reported that a record 136 turkeys – over 2,100 pounds – were dropped off. Since its start, the drive has collected 1,003 turkeys totaling over 15,700 pounds for donation to the Salvation Army for its Thanksgiving Day dinner or to be given to people in the community. When the turkeys were dropped off, the Salvation Army reported that it expected to serve over 1,400 holiday meals. Any unused turkeys will be served at Christmas. Coordinators thanked those who dropped off a turkey or made a cash donation, and a special thank you was given to John Friedlund for helping out with the drive.
