On-island celebrations to kick off holiday festivities
Two island events coming up in the next few days will help to kick off the holiday season.
The ‘Tween Waters Island Resort & Spa will host its Annual Spectacular Tree Lighting Celebration on Nov. 29, and the South Seas Island Resort will hold its Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Nov. 30.
Both events are free and open to residents and visitors.
Organized for nearly two decades, the ‘Tween Waters celebration will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. Drawing over 1,000 attendees each year, it will feature more than 100,000 holiday lights set to musical synchronicity, plus the lighting of a 30-foot Christmas tree at the threshold to the Gulf of Mexico.
There will be live music, including CJ the deejay from 4 to 6 p.m. starting up the holidays tunes beachfront. At 6 p.m., the band Gatlin will perform as the thousands of twinkling lights come alive.
The festivities will continue with a fireworks show on the beach, which will be choreographed to holiday music, at 7 p.m. – along with a snowstorm, snowing palm trees, and laser lights.
The following night, the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at the South Seas Island Resort will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The family-friendly event also has become a holiday tradition for the island.
For the second year in a row, the festivities will take place in the Yacht Harbour Marina, where the resort also will host its 7th Annual Holiday Stroll in December with the proceeds to benefit a charity.
At the tree lighting ceremony, attendees will enjoy a spirited time, complete with holiday cooking decorating, festive tunes, refreshments and the annual reading of “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas.”
