St. Michael’s to host Lessons, Carols service
St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church will host its Advent-season Lessons and Carols service on Dec. 4 at 6 p.m. in the Sanctuary. The half-hour service will mark the beginning of the church year.
Opening with a bidding prayer, it will include intercessions for the needs of the community and the world. A prescribed sequence of scriptural lessons and familiar carols then will follow.
“The service invites believers into the season of preparation for the birth of Christ,” Priest-in-Charge Alan Kelmereit said. “When people enter the church for the service, they leave behind the hustle and bustle of Christmas shopping, with its overly commercialized advertising and merchandising, to reflect on the true significance of our celebration of the Nativity.”
For the processional, the women of the parish choir will sing a Korean carol, “Savior of the Nations, Come,” in Korean. The full choir will sing “As Lately We Watched,” in an arrangement by Charles Black, along with “Ding, Dong Merrily on High” and “The Holly and the Ivy” – two English carols.
Parishioner Michael Baldwin will play a keyboard recital of Christmas Carols as a prelude.
The service will be followed by a potluck supper in the Parish Hall. Everyone is welcome; bring your favorite dish, and dinnerware – if you can – or just bring yourself and enjoy the camaraderie.
