The Island Water Association’s management, staff and board of directors marked the signing of its initial contract with the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades AFL/CIO, District Council 78, Local Union 2301, with a barbeque luncheon on Oct. 31 at the utility.

The execution of the contract marks the completion of negotiations which began in March and extended through the summer and fall months.

“The process of contract negotiation was collaborative, positive and based on solid market data,” IWA General Manager Diana Wilson said. “The strength of our utility comes from our dedicated workforce. This contract will permit Island Water to attract and retain the best talent in the water utility business and continue delivering high quality water and outstanding service to our island residents.”

The initial contract duration extends until January 2022 and will continue automatic annual renewals unless either party requests a renegotiation of terms.
