Annual event to celebrate Cayo Costa State Park
Celebrate Cayo Costa Day will be held at the state park on Nov. 2 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Affordable all-inclusive tickets feature round-trip boat transportation from four departure points, all activities and lunch provided by Little Lilly’s Deli of Pine Island.
“This is a perfect family, couples or friends event,” Friends of Cayo Costa State Park chairperson Elaine McLaughlin said. “Come and learn about the pioneer families who settled here. Take a guided beach walk and make some shell crafts. This is a great opportunity to visit the park by boat and enjoy the out-island scenery before you arrive.”
“We thank our charter boat sponsors, Captiva Cruises, Tropic Star Cruises and King Fisher Fleet, for providing transportation from Captiva, Boca Grande, Pine Island and Punta Gorda, so that visitors can come out and learn more about the park’s fascinating history and walk the sandy beaches and trails,” she added.
The day will feature tours of the island, including a walk to the pioneer family cemetery, and nature and shelling beach walks; free shelling bags will be provided. The Randell Research Center will have Calusa artifacts on display, and the Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife will provide live animal demonstrations. In addition, park staff will present information about the island state park.
Attendees can try their hand at palm weaving and a variety of shell crafts. Lee County Parks and Conservation 20/20 will talk about how the public can help protect the coastal land and waterways. In addition, Fort Myers Beach songwriter Sheena Brook will perform during lunch. Activities will be held at the park landing area off Pelican Bay and beachside near the pavilions and campground area.
Tickets are $40 for adults and $30 for children under 12.
Friends of Cayo Costa members receive a $10 discount per adult ticket.
All funds raised by the friends group will be used for the Cayo Costa State Park.
For reservations departing from Captiva, call 239-472-5300.
