The Sanibel Captiva Charter Chapter of the American Business Women’s Association will host its monthly luncheon on Oct. 22 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sundial Beach Resort & Spa.

The guest speaker is hospitality professional Kari Cordisco. She will present “Find Your Gift and Give it Away – The Fine Art of Hospitality,” discussing steps everyone can take to up their game in customer service and the art of a warm welcome and pleasing others.

Cordisco is general manager at the Sanibel Moorings Resort, Gardens & Condo Association, with credentials as a community association manager, accredited residential manager, certified guest service professional and professional wedding officiant.

“Women are encouraged today to let their brilliance shine and take the lead, but that does not detract from the importance of delighting our customers,” she said. “In both business and personal life, there is a benefit to knowing how to put smiles on the faces of others.”

Cordisco claims she launched her career in the hospitality industry “by accident” at the age of 20, landing a hotel general manager role while attending college in Waterloo Iowa.

“Many have heard the old adage ‘The meaning of life is to find your gift, but the purpose of life is to give it away,'” she said. “As my career grew in the hospitality industry, this saying became my motto.”

“I discovered both irony and joy in a hospitality career path,” Cordisco continued, considering her multi-faceted past. “And I have some good stories and lessons learned to share.”

Cordisco built her career managing large hotel portfolios, directing hotel construction, opening new hotels and overseeing multiple hotel sales, finally joining the Sanibel Moorings team in 2011. Under her leadership and direction, it has earned No. 1 hotel on Sanibel for many years on TripAdvisor and WeddingWire Couples’ Choice Award every year since 2011. In addition, she was named Lee County “Best Tourism Boss” in 2017.

“Everyone will enjoy this presentation and come away with an idea they can use,” ABWA chapter President Gloria Garrett said. “Participants from all walks of life can learn from an expert in the art of hospitality.”

The chapter meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month at the Sundial Beach Resort & Spa, at 1451 Middle Gulf Drive, Sanibel. Networking starts at 11:30 a.m., with lunch and a speaker from noon to 1 p.m. The cost for lunch is $25 per person. The meetings are open to the public.
