By Staff | Oct 11, 2019

PHOTO PROVIDED Orchids growing at the Edison & Ford Winter Estates in Fort Myers. The Sanibel Captiva Orchid Society visited the gardens in May.

The Sanibel Captiva Orchid Society will meet on Oct. 21 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church, at 2304 Periwinkle Way, Sanibel.

Known as “Angraecum man,” Tom Kuligowski will be the guest speaker. Angraecums are known for their beautiful showy flowers, many of them fragrant at night. Kuligowski has created an Angraecums blog, as well as a Facebook page, to pass on growing tips and trends. He travels throughout the country doing orchid presentations.

Orchid enthusiasts are encouraged to come at 1 p.m. for a fundamentals session, when members talk about orchid basics. In October, the topic will be “Fall in the Orchid Garden: what do we do now?” Anyone with questions or an “ill” orchid that needs diagnosis can bring the plants to the meeting during show and tell.

Most meetings will have orchid sales, as well as an orchid raffle.

Members are invited to participate in a monthly show at each meeting. Ribbons are awarded for the best hybrid and the best species orchids.

Annual membership is $25 per person or $45 for couples; guests are $5.
